Breed Description: 

The Dunker breed of dog is a medium sized breed that should be sturdy and have the appearance of an athletic breed. They should not be course and should have a robust build while still looking elegant. The build should be slightly longer than it is tall and the top line should be level. The head should be broad with a square muzzle. The ears should be long and should hang down the side of the head. The tail should be long and should taper to the end.

The coat of the Dunker should be short and dense. It should be hard to the touch and should be straight. The coat can either be tan or brown or a harlequin coat, which is a white and blue marbled pattern with or without a black saddle.

Temperament: 
The Dunker breed of dog is an active hunting breed but when they have proper exercise, the Dunker can actually be a very calm and affectionate breed. They are known for being very intelligent and are usually easy going with family members. They are usually very loyal and tend to be very affectionate with everyone in their home. The breed can be very good with children and tend to get along with other dogs.

The average height for a Dunker is between 18.5 to 22.5 inches.
Weight: 
The average weight of the Dunker is between 35 to 50 pounds.
Health Problems: 
The Dunker breed of dog is considered to be a healthy breed, however, some have been known to suffer from hip dysplasia.
Living Conditions: 
The Dunker breed of dog is not recommended for apartments. They are an active breed and need a yard to exercise in.
Exercise: 
The Dunker breed of dog is an active breed that needs at least 60 minutes of exercise each day. They love being out and working so it is important to offer them a variety of activities.

10 to14 years
Grooming: 
The Dunker breed of dog should be brushed once per week to remove any dead hair but outside of that, they are a very easy dog to groom. Special care should be given to the ears, since they can be prone to ear infections and the hair under the ears and around the feet should be trimmed on a regular basis. Baths should only be given when it is absolutely necessary and the breed can go several months between baths.
Origin: 
The Dunker breed of dog is also known as the Norwegian Hound and is believed to be a very old breed. In fact, the breed is believed to date back to several centuries and can be traced back to Herr Wilhelm Dunker, who is credited with creating the breed in the 1820's. The breed is believed to have been developed by crossing the Russian Harlequin Hound withe several scent hounds that were indigenous to Norway. The result was the Dunker and the breed was used for hunting hares and other game.
