Breed Description: 

The Drever breed of dog is a medium sized breed of dog that should be robust and sturdy in appearance. They should have an elongated body that is seen in the Dachshund breeds, however, the legs should be straight. The body should be low slung and the top line should be level. The head of the Drever should be larger, however, it should be in proportion to the body. The ears should be medium in length and hang down the side of the head. The tail should be long and slightly curled down.

The coat of the Drever should be short and thick. It should lay flat on the skin and should be close to it. The breed can be found in several colors including fawn and white, black, white and tan or black and white. It is very important for the dog to have white markings and they should appear on the chest, neck, tail tip, feet and face.

Temperament: 
The Drever breed of dog is a friendly and intelligent dog that is described as being quite cheerful. They are a hunting dog, however, and they do have the drive to work. In fact, they are happiest when they have something to do. The breed can also be quite stubborn and does need a firm owner who can give consistent training. The Drever is usually very good with children and usually gets along well with other dogs. They do have a high prey drive so care should be taken when introducing the breed to small, non-canine pets.

The average height for a Drever is between 11 to 16 years.

The average weight for a Drever is between 32 to 34 pounds.
Health Problems: 
The Drever breed of dog is considered to be a hardy breed of dog with few known health problems. They do have an elongated body so they may have some spinal health problems.
Living Conditions: 
The Drever breed of dog can do well in apartments if they are given proper exercise. The breed does need a fenced yard if they have access to a yard.
Exercise: 
The Drever breed of dog is an active breed and should receive between 45 to 60 minutes of exercise on a daily basis.

12 to 14 years
Grooming: 
The Drever breed of dog should be brushed once per week to remove any dead hair but outside of that, they are a very easy dog to groom. Special care should be given to the ears, since they can be prone to ear infections and the hair under the ears and around the feet should be trimmed on a regular basis. Baths should only be given when it is absolutely necessary and the breed can go several months between baths.
Origin: 
The Drever breed of dog was developed in Sweden and is believed to be a recreation of the breed. They are believed to be developed by crossing the Weshpalian Dachsbracke with hound breeds that are indigenous to Sweden. The breed was originally developed for hunting and the breed became a very popular breed in Sweden. In fact, while it is considered to be a rare breed throughout hte world, it is one of the most popular breeds in its country of origin.
