The Dogo Argentino breed of dog is a fairly young breed and it was actually developed in the early 1920's in Argentina. In fact, the breed can trace its origins back to Dr. Antonio Nores Martinez and Agustin Marinez, both of whom were looking to great a hunting and guarding dog. The pair crossed several breeds to create the Dogo Argentino including the Great Pyrenees, Dogue de Bordeaux, Spanish Mastiff, Bull Terrier, Dog of Cordoba, Irish Wolfhound, Bulldog, Pointer Boxer, Great Dane and the Spanish Mastiff. The result was a hard working guarding and hunting dog. Despite its use for the former, the Dogo Argentino faced extinction after the breed was used in dog fights making it a restricted breed in several countries. Currently, the breed is proving that it is a well rounded and versatile breed that can be used in a range of capacities including as a service breed.
