Breed Description: 

The Deutsche Bracke breed of dog is a medium sized breed of dog that should be robust without appearing course or overweight. They should have a level top line and a slightly longer body than they are tall. The head should be broad with a slight dome to it and the ears should hang down the side of the head and be slightly curled. The tail should be long and carried low.

The coat of the Haldenstovare should be short and dense with a natural shine. They should be found in common foxhound colors, which is white, tan and black.

Temperament: 
The Deutsche Bracke breed of dog is a hard working breed that thrives when they have something to do. They are known for being very difficult breed to train and they need to have a firm and patient owner. They are a working breed and while they are affectionate, they are also energetic. The breed does well with children and they usually get along well with other dogs, however, they do have a strong prey drive and may not be suitable for homes with small, non-canine pets.
Height: 
The average height for a Deutsche Bracke is between 16 to 21 inches.
Weight: 
The average weight for a Deutsche Bracke is between 35 to 40 pounds.
Health Problems: 
The Deutsche Bracke breed of dog is considered to be a hardy breed of dog with few known health problems.
Living Conditions: 
The Deutsche Bracke breed of dog is not recommended for apartments. This is a hunting breed and does much better in a home with a large yard or acreage.
Exercise: 
The Deutsche Bracke breed of dog is an active breed that needs at least 60 minutes of exercise each day. They love being out and working so it is important to offer them a variety of activities.
Grooming: 
The Deutsche Bracke breed of dog should be brushed once per week to remove any dead hair but outside of that, they are a very easy dog to groom. Special care should be given to the ears, since they can be prone to ear infections and the hair under the ears and around the feet should be trimmed on a regular basis. Baths should only be given when it is absolutely necessary and the breed can go several months between baths.
Origin: 
The Deutsche Bracke breed of dog was developed in Germany and is believed to have been developed several centuries ago for use of hunting. The breed was commonly used for hunting fox in large packs and while efforts were created to save the breed in the early to mid 1900's, they are still considered to be a rare breed to this day.
