Breed Description:
The Coton Tzu breed of dog is not a recognized breed of dog. Instead it is a cross of a Coton de Tulear and a Shih Tzu. This makes it a hybrid dog or a designer dog. The difference between a designer dog and what people commonly refer to as mutts or mixed breeds is the fact that designer dogs are usually bred intentionally. The parents are purebred dogs, often registered. They may even have been health-tested. The ancestry of the designer dog is known, unlike with most mutts and mixed breed dogs. The breeder is trying to produce a certain kind of dog for some reason.
The Coton Tzu breed of dog may combine traits of its Coton de Tulear and Shih Tzu parents or it may resemble one parent more than another. It’s also possible for a breeder to breed two dogs that are Coton Tzus together. This means that the dogs are the result of previous breedings of Coton de Tulears and Shih Tzus. However, the puppies may still resemble either Coton de Tulears or Shih Tzus.
If you are interested in a Coton Tzu breed of dog then you should gather information about both the Coton de Tulear and the Shih Tzu. There’s no way to tell exactly how the puppies will turn out or to what degree they will resemble which parent.

The Coton Tzu breed of dog is said to be a small and affectionate little dog. Breeders say that they make good family pets.

Exercise:
As with its two parent breeds, the Coton Tzu breed of dog requires regular daily exercise to maintain good health and to avoid developing behavior problems. They may be prone to becoming overweight to exercise is very important.

Grooming:
Regular grooming is important for the Coton Tzu breed of dog. Both parent breeds have long coats that require frequent grooming and the Coton Tzu will also need frequent brushing to avoid tangles and mats. Clean the ears regularly to avoid ear infections.
