Breed Description:

For many people the Comfort Retriever breed of dog would be known as a “Golden Doodle” but there is a distinction.  A Golden Doodle is usually the product of one Golden Retriever parent and one Poodle parent.  In the case of the Comfort Retriever breed of dog, the dog is 3/4 Golden Retriever and 1/4 Poodle.  These dogs are selectively bred to look like a small Golden Retriever.

“Comfort Retriever” is a trademarked term used by one or several breeders who are using this cross of Golden Retrievers and Poodles to try to create small dogs that look like Golden Retrievers.  This is supposed to distinguish their dogs from earlier efforts to breed Comfort Retrievers by crossing Cocker Spaniels with Golden Retrievers which didn’t produce the kind of dogs they wanted.  However, some breeders are still producing those dogs and using the “Comfort Retriever” term.

Temperament:
The Comfort Retriever breed of dog is said to be mild-mannered and to get along well with other pets and people. They are intelligent and learn quickly.
Height:
No specific height is given for the Comfort Retriever breed of dog but they are smaller than the ordinary Golden Retriever.
Weight:
The Comfort Retriever breed of dog weighs between 18 and 40 pounds.
Exercise:
Both the Poodle and the Golden Retriever require regular daily exercise so the Comfort Retriever breed of dog should also require daily exercise to maintain good health and to keep the dog from developing behavior problems.
Life Expectancy:
Lifespan Unknown.
Grooming:
The coat of the Comfort Retriever breed of dog is said to have some reduced shedding properties, like the Poodle, but they are meant to resemble their Golden Retriever side of the family. They will have a longer coat that needs regular brushing. Clean the ears regularly to avoid ear infections.
Origin:
The Comfort Retriever breed of dog seems to have been created in the United States over the course of many years by a breeder or breeders who were trying to create a dog that was a smaller version of the Golden Retriever. They differ from Golden Doodles in the fact that they have a specific look in mind for the dog they’re trying to create. The exact percentages of Golden Retriever to Poodle in the mix may vary.
