Breed Description: 

The Chinese Chongqing Dog breed is calm, confident, dignified, direct, courageous, alert and intelligent. The dogs may be somewhat aloof with strangers but they are affectionate with their family and trustworthy with children. These dogs may be somewhat aggressive so early socialization is strongly recommended. They do require time and training in order to be good family dogs.

Height: 
The Chinese Chongqing Dog breed of dog usually stands between 14 and 19.5 inches tall at the withers.
Weight: 
These dogs typically weigh between 33 and 54 pounds.
Exercise: 
The Chinese Chongqing Dog breed of dog does require regular daily exercise to remain healthy. These dogs have been used for hunting and guard work in China for over 2000 years and they are still quite active dogs. The dogs are natural hunters and if you allow your dog off-leash he may ignore you and not return, so exercise caution.
Life Expectancy: 
The lifespan of the Chinese Chongqing Dog breed of dog is said to be about 18 years.
Grooming: 
Because of the breed’s short, flat coat the dog’s skin is often near the surface. Regular brushing and grooming are necessary to keep the dog healthy. The dog’s facial wrinkles may need special cleaning to keep them clean and healthy. Clean the ears regularly to prevent ear infections.
Origin: 
This breed is considered rare even in China. The Chinese Chongqing Dog breed of dog is believed to be over 2000 years old and is said to have come into existence during the Han Dynasty in the southwestern region of Chongqing. The dogs are natural hunters, working as scent hounds, and have been used to protect the home. They are not currently recognized by any major kennel clubs outside China but that could change.
