Breed Description: 

The Chien Francais Blanc et Noir breed of dog is a large sized breed of dog that should be powerful in appearance without appearing course. They should have a level top line that is slightly longer than they are tall and they should have a slight tuck up. The head should be narrow and long, however, it should be in proportion to the body. The ears should be long and should be slightly curled. The tail of the Chien Francais Blanc et Noir should be long and tapered to a point.

The coat should be short and dense and should lay close to the skin. They should be black and white, although some black or blue ticking is allowed. In addition, some tan markings on the head, on the thigh, known as a roebuck marking, and under the tail. There can also be tan specking on the legs.

Temperament: 
The Chien Francais Blanc et Noir breed of dog is an intelligent breed that is known for their energy and dedication for work. This is a hunting dog and they do well working throughout the day. The breed is usually loyal to their family, however, they can be stubborn and do need a firm owner for training. The breed usually does well in a multidog home but they need proper socialization to be accepting of other animals.

The average height for the Chien Francais Blanc et Noir is between 24.5 to 26.5 inches for a female and 25.5 to 28 inches for a male.

Origin: 
The Chien Francais Blanc et Noir breed of dog was developed in France and is the result of crossbreeding the Gascon Saintongeois with the Poitevin. The breed was developed in the late 19th Century and was commonly used for hunting large game. They were officially recognized in the 1950's and today they are considered to be an uncommon breed.
