Origin:
The Cesky Terrier breed of dog is the result of a deliberate cross between the Scottish Terrier and the Sealyham Terrier in 1949. They were first recognized by the FCI in 1963. The purpose of creating the breed was to develop a dog that was narrow enough to go down into fox dens and burrow to hunt rats. There were further crosses with the Sealyham Terrier in the 1980s. They were first imported to the U.S. in 1987 and remain rare in the States. They are shown at rare breed shows, FCI shows and UKC shows.
