Breed Description: 

The breed is used for both herding and as a companion dog. They are very intelligent dogs and easy to train. They have a cheerful personality and can excel at activities such as agility and canine freestyle. The Catalan Sheepdog breed of dog can also be used as a watchdog. They make a good all-around dog. They do require firmness and early socialization, especially if they are going to be around children.

Height: 
The breed typically stands 18 to 22 inches tall at the shoulder.
Weight: 
The Catalan Sheepdog breed of dog usually weighs about 40 pounds.
Exercise: 
These dogs require regular outdoor exercise to maintain good health and to avoid behavior problems. They have been a solid working dog for generations and they enjoy having a job to do.
Life Expectancy: 
The lifespan for the breed is 12 to 14 years.
Grooming: 
The breed’s coat requires regular brushing to keep it from tangling and matting. Regular ear cleaning is necessary to prevent ear infections.
Origin: 
The Catalan Sheepdog breed of dog comes from Catalonia in Spain. The dogs are believed to be descended from the ancient Pyrenees sheepdogs of France and Spain. The dogs were used as messengers and sentries during the Spanish Civil War.
