The Cane Corso Italiano breed of dog is a very old breed, probably the original Cane Corso breed of Italy and the ancestor of the old Roman war dogs which were used to hunt wild animals and used in battles. This breed was once common all over Italy but it was allowed to virtually die out. The current Cane Corso Italiano is a “recovered” breed. It has been brought back from the brink of extinction by devoted breeders since the 1980s. This modern day breed is recognized by the FCI. The breed will be eligible for full AKC registration in 2010. Comments
The standards for all the breeds accepted to the AKC are used here for breed information, and those not part of the AKC are resourced from FCI standard information, where it is written and coded into the club rules for those breeds.
