The Campolina's coat can be virtually any color, including gray or silver-gray, sorrel (chestnut), roan, or bay, as well as dun, buckskin, and Pinto. A hard-working, stabled Campolina may require a thorough grooming each day, while one kept in the pasture may require only a light going over with a dandy brush. Campolinas should have their hooves trimmed every few months.
Origin:
The Campolina breed of horse was developed by Cassiano Campolina on his farm, Fazenda Tamque, in Brazil, beginning in 1870 with a black mare named Medéia. Medéia was bred with a pure Andalusian stallion and gave birth to a dark gray colt, a half-blood Andalusian, named Monarca. Monarca is considered the founder of the Campolina breed of horse. Cassiano Campolina bred the Campolina line with a focus on obtaining horses with a smooth gait, high energy, and a vigorous nature.
