Pronunciation:
(CAIR-land TER-ri-er)
Breed Description:

Height:
The Cairland Terrier breed of dog stands between 9 and 13 inches tall at the shoulder.
Weight:
The Cairland Terrier breed of dog weighs between 13 and 22 pounds.
Exercise:
The Cairland Terrier breed of dog is an active small dog and does need regular exercise for good health and to avoid behavior problems.
Life Expectancy:
Both the Cairn Terrier and the West Highland White Terrier are rather long-lived breeds, living 12-15 years or more. The Cairland Terrier breed of dog could be expected to live this long, too.
Grooming:
The shaggy coat of the Cairland Terrier may look “natural” but it does require maintenance. It will become matted unless it’s brushed regularly. Hair around the eyes and ears also needs to be trimmed regularly. Coats which resemble the West Highland White Terrier will need to be stripped periodically. Shedding from these dogs should be minimal.
Origin:
Unknown, however, the Cairn Terrier is said to be one of the original terrier breeds of Scotland. The West Highland White Terrier is said to derive from a litter of Cairn Terriers in the mid-19th century which produce all-white puppies, suggesting that Westies began as all-white Cairns, so the two parent breeds may share a common origin.
