Breed Description:
The Byelorussian Harness breed of horse, also known as the Belorusskaya, is a breed of horse that is primarily restricted to its native country of Belarus. There are two types of the breed, one large and one medium sized, although the medium sized horses make up the largest part of the Byelorussian Harness population. The Byelorussian Harness breed of horse has a medium sized head and neck with a very wide forehead. The neck is exceptionally muscular and the back is long and flat. Usually dun, bay, or chestnut in color, the Byelorussian Harness horse features a wide chest and thick legs, making them excellent for pulling carriages and agricultural equipment. The dark, thick mane and tail are distinguishing features.
Temperament:
Byelorussian Harness horses are willing and incredibly able workers. They are renowned for their stamina and endurance, and for their versatility to complete any task put to them. Mild mannered and relaxed, they may sometimes be inadequately socialized, as they spend most of their life working in the traditional farming methods of the people of Belarus.

Health Problems:
There are no known health problems in the Byelorussian Harness breed of horse. However, because the breed is so willing to work and possesses such incredible endurance, the Byelorussian Harness horse may work past its ability to do so safely without complaining. This may result in injuries that can go unnoticed, so handlers of this breed must stay vigilant and aware and quickly treat any injuries. The Byelorussian Harness breed of horse is known to be exceptionally long lived, and mares are quite fertile.
Origin:
The exact origins of the Byelorussian Harness horse are unclear. It has been theorized that the people of Belarus have been breeding this animal for several centuries at a minimum utilizing Dole and Ardennes bloodlines from Norway. Modern Byelorussian Harness horses are found almost exclusively in Belarus.
