Breed Description: 

The Bosnian Roughhaired Hound breed of dog is a medium sized breed of dog that should be slightly longer than they are tall. They should be athletic with a robust appearance and a level top line. The belly should be tucked up and the overall build should be athletic. The head should be slightly convex with a rectangular muzzle and the ears should be long and hang down the side of the head. The tail of the Bosnian Roughhaired Hound should be long.

The Bosnian Roughhaired Hound should have a long coat that is thick and wiry in texture. They should have a thick, soft undercoat and the overall appearance should be of a shaggy dog. The coat should be reddish yellow to wheaten yellow, however, bi-colored with white is seen as is tri-colored with white and black is also seen.

Temperament: 
The Bosnian Roughhaired Hound breed of dog, despite being a fierce hunting dog, is surprisingly calm and noble. This breed is known for being affectionate and loyal and is usually a very calm breed that watches the world instead of actively making things happen. The breed is known for being very courageous and will protect their family with their life. They do well with children of all ages and usually do well with other dogs and pets. The breed can be suspicious of strangers and does need proper socialization. The Bosnian Roughhaired Hound does need a firm and consistent owner who can provide rules and proper training, they are not recommended for new or inexperienced owners.

The average height for a Bosnian Roughhaired Hound is between 18 to 22 inches.
Weight: 
The average weight for a Bosnian Roughhaired Hound is between 35 to 55 pounds.
Health Problems: 
The Bosnian Roughhaired Hound breed of dog is considered to be a very hardy breed and has no known health problems at this time.
Living Conditions: 
The Bosnian Roughhaired Hound breed of dog is not recommended for apartments. This is an active breed that needs plenty of room to play so the ideal living condition is a home with a large yard. It is important for this breed to have a fenced yard since they will follow anything that smells interesting to them.
Exercise: 
The Bosnian Roughhaired Hound breed of dog is an active breed and they really do need a lot of exercise. Expect to give them about 60 minutes of exercise each day or about three very long walks. They make excellent jogging companions. They should only be exercised on leash when they are outside a secure area since they will follow any interesting scent.

Grooming: 
The Bosnian Roughhaired Hound breed of dog, despite having a rough coat, is actually very easy to groom. Generally, a daily brushing is recommended to prevent tangles but two or three a week is also enough to keep the coat tidy. Hand stripping should be done several times a month to remove dead hair and mats. Ears should be cleaned on a regular basis and nails should be clipped once or twice a month.
Origin: 
The Bosnian Roughhaired Hound breed of dog was developed in Bosnia and is believed to date back to the 1800's where it is believed that the St. Hubert Hound and the Griffon Nivernais went into its creation. However, it is important to note that the actual breeds used for the Bosnian Roughhaired Hound is not clear and more breeds may have went into it. The breed was used for hunting and was originally known as the Illyrian Hound.
