Breed Description: 

The Bordernese breed of dog is a "designer" or mixed breed that was created by crossing the Bernese Mountain Dog with the Border Collie. Because of this, a breed type has not been established and the looks and temperament of the dog can greatly change from one puppy to the next. Generally, the Bordernese will have qualities of both parents. The breed can range in size from medium to large but regardless of size, they should be a well-balanced and proportioned dog. They should have a robust build that is closer to the Bernese Mountain Dog, however, tehy should have lean legs and the wedge shaped head of the Border Collie. The top line should be level and the length should be slightly longer than the height. The ears are usually medium in size and fold to the side. The tail is usually long.

The coat of the Bordernese is usually a very long and thick coat that is similar to the Bernese Mountain Dog. It should have a thick, soft undercoat and a longer top coat that covers the dog completely. The texture should be medium to the touch. The Bordernese usually comes in the same color as the Bernese Mountain Dog with the primarily black coat with white markings and tan points.

Temperament: 
The Bordernese breed of dog is a designer breed and because of this, their temperament can vary greatly. They are known for being an intelligent breed that is even tempered and really sweet. The breed is very affectionate and loyal to their family and they can make an excellent family dog. They are usually very patient with children of all ages, however, if they take after their Border Collie parent, they may try to herd them. The Bordernese usually does well with other dogs and pets and while they can be reserved with strangers, they are usually a friendly dog that is known for having a very easy nature.

The Bordernese breed of dog has no known health problems, however, is important to research both the Bernese Mountain Dog and the Border Collie to be aware of any potential health problems your dog could be at risk for.
Living Conditions: 
The Bordernese breed of dog can do well in apartments if they are properly exercised, however, the ideal home is one with a large fenced yard.
Exercise: 
The Bordernese breed of dog is an active breed of dog that requires about 60 minutes of exercise each day. They do need mental stimulation since they are very intelligent. If the Bordernese gets too bored, they can become very destructive.

Grooming: 
The Bordernese breed of dog can be very difficult to groom and you should expect to brush them on a daily basis. In addition, it is important to use a leave in conditioner before you brush the dog to prevent the hair from splitting and breaking. Some hand stripping may be required to remove mats. Bathing only needs to be done when necessary, however, the ears should be cleaned on a weekly basis. Nails should be done once or twice a month.
