The Blazer breed of horse has a refined head with bold, intelligent eyes that are wide set on the corners of the skull. The Blazer has a short and compact back with sloping hips that allow for a long and graceful stride. Sound hooves and dense bones make the Blazer an excellent and able worker and pleasure animal. Blazer horses must be solid in color, but can be many shades: bay, black, chestnut, buckskin, palomino, and dun.

The Blazer was bred with special attention to temperament. Blazer horses are very gentle and intelligent. They are docile, and make excellent family pets as they respond respectfully and eagerly to children. The Blazer breed of horse handles new events and situations well, and is regarded as an honest animal. However, the Blazer is strong-willed, and so needs clear guidelines and commands.
Height:
13 hh to 15 hh
Health Problems:
The Blazer breed of horse has no known congenital health issues. It is a hardy animal that rarely takes ill. Advancement into the Blazer studbook requires an exam and certification from a qualified veterinarian, making breeding stock for the Blazer of exceptional health quality.
Origin:
The Blazer horse was bred by Neil Hink in 1959 on a farm in Star, Idaho. Hink purposefully set out to create a horse breed that excelled in all equestrian events and sports and was also an easy-keeping family animal. Hink utilized bloodlines from Morgans, Quarterhorses, Saddlebreds, and Thoroughbreds. All current horses seeking registry as a Blazer breed of horse must be able to successfully trace lineage back to the original stallion known as “Little Blaze”.
