Breed Description: 

The Billy breed of dog is a large sized breed of dog that should be athletic in appearance without appearing too cumbersome. They should be light in build with moderate muscles and they should have a slightly arched top line and a slight tuck up. The head of the Billy should be narrow with a moderate length and a fine appearance. The ears should be medium in length and should be set slightly high on the head, hanging down and turned slightly in. The tail should be long.

The coat of the Billy should be short but it should have a harsh texture to it. There can be slight feathering on the tail. The Billy can be either off white or pure white in color and they can either be solid in coloring or can have markings or mantle in orange or lemon.

Temperament: 
The Billy breed of dog is an intelligent breed that is known for being an exceptional hunting dog that is always ready to work. The breed is known for their hard working nature and while they can be trained, they tend to be stubborn so they need a firm owner who can set clear rules. The breed does exceptionally well with other dogs, however, some same gender aggression has been seen. They are not recommended for homes with smaller, non-canine pets since they have a strong prey drive.

The average height for a Billy is between 22.5 to 24.5 inches for a female and 23.5 to 27.5 inches for a male.
Weight: 
The average weight for a Billy is between 52 to 70 pounds.
Health Problems: 
The Billy breed of dog is considered to be a hardy breed of dog with few known health problems.
Living Conditions: 
The Billy breed of dog is not recommended for apartments. This is a hunting breed and does much better in a home with a large yard or acreage.
Exercise: 
The Billy breed of dog is a very active breed and requires 45 to 60 minutes of exercise each day.

10 to 14 years
Grooming: 
The Billy breed of dog is a very easy breed to groom and they require little to no maintenance to keep their coats healthy. On average, you should expect to brush your dog on a weekly basis to remove dead hairs and dirt. A wipe down with a damp cloth will keep them clean and they should only be bathed when it is absolutely necessary. Ears should be cleaned on a regular basis and nails should be clipped once or twice a month.
Origin: 
The Billy breed of dog was developed in France during the 1800's and was primarily used for hunting both large and small prey. The breed was created by crossing the Montemboeuf, Larye and the Ceris breeds and much of the breeding was done by Monsier Gaston Hublot du Rivault, who resided in Chateau de Billy. The breed is still used in much the same way as it was when it was first created.
