Breed Description:

The Basston breed of dog is a "designer" or mixed breed that was created by crossing the Basset Hound and the Boston Terrier. Because of this, a breed type has not been established and the looks and temperament of the dog can greatly change from one puppy to the next. Generally, the Basston will have qualities of all the parents. They are a small breed of dog that has an elongated body that is longer than they are tall. They are usually leggier than a Basset Hound and have more of the Boston Terrier build with the exception of the longer body. The head is usually broad and the muzzle is long and closer to that of the Basset Hound. The overall shape of the head usually has a hound look to it. The ears are generally medium in length and hang down the side of hte head. The tail can be a cork screw or the long tail of the Basset Hound and the top line is usually level.

The coat of the Basston is usually a short coat that is very dense and covers the dog completely. The hair should lay flat on the dog and create a smooth line. The texture of the coat should be slightly hard. The Basston can be found in any colors that are common in the parent breeds.
