Breed Description:
The Balikun breed of horse is a native breed of China. These are tough little horses and are used extensively for transportation within the areas in which they are found. They have a heavy head with short ears and a thick, strong, short neck. They have stout, powerful legs and tough, dense hooves. They are very powerful and muscular and are capable of carrying heavy loads relative to their small stature. The coat is thick and dense. The most common colors are bay and chestnut. They are commonly used as riding horses, pack horses and light draft horses.

The Balikun breed of horse originated in Xinjiang Autonomous Region of China. It is a relatively rare and ancient breed which is descended from Kazakh and Mongolian horses.
