Horse
The Avelignese breed of horse is actually the Italian version of the Haflinger. These horses are considered to be the most numerous of the Italian breeds and they are widely found throughout Tuscany, Emilia and Central Southern Italy. The Avelignese were developed in rocky, mountainous environments so they are a tough breed. These horses are well suited for medium to heavy draft work, farm work, riding or as a pack horse. They tend toward being a middleweight type of horse and are taller and heavier than the Haflinger. They are a very versatile type of horse with a muscular frame, good conformation and good tough feet. The head is usually quite small and light with lively, expressive eyes and small ears. They tend to have a short and muscular neck and powerful shoulders which makes them very suitable for driving. They tend to be a short, stocky horse with broad chests, wide, short backs, and round, muscular hindquarters. They have stout well formed legs with some feathering around the fetlocks. These horses are always a shade of chestnut with a flaxen or white mane and tail.
