Breed Description: 

The Austrian Brandlbracke breed of dog is a medium sized breed of dog that should be compact and athletic in appearance. This sturdy dog should have a level top line and should be slightly longer than they are tall. They should have the appearance of a fast dog that is built for endurance. The tail should be long and carried in a saber like fashion. The head should be broad and the ears should be long and hang down the side of the cheeks.

The coat of the dog should be short in length and dense with a natural shine to it. The only coat color for this breed is black and tan.

Temperament: 
The Austrian Brandlbracke breed of dog is happy and outgoing and is known for being a very friendly dog. They are known for being very intelligent and combined with their eagerness to please, the breed is very easy to train. The Austrian Brandlbracke is usually very good with children and is a loving companion for them. The breed is usually good with other dogs, however, they do need proper socialization to accept other small, non-canine pets.
Height: 
The average height for the Austrian Brandlbracke is between 18 to 23 inches.
Weight: 
The average weight for the Austrian Brandlbracke is between 33 to 49 pounds.
Health Problems: 
The Austrian Brandlbracke breed of dog is considered to be a healthy breed, however, there have been a number of health problems seen including hip dysplasia, anesthesia sensitivity, entropian, progressive retinal atrophy, gastric torsion, which is also known as bloat, arthritis and ectropian.
Living Conditions: 
The Austrian Brandlbracke breed of dog is not recommended for apartments. This is a hunting breed and does much better in a home with a large yard or acreage.
Exercise: 
The Austrian Brandlbracke breed of dog is an active breed that needs at least 60 minutes of exercise each day. They love being out and working so it is important to offer them a variety of activities.

10 to 14 years
Grooming: 
The Austrian Brandlbracke breed of dog should be brushed once per week to remove any dead hair but outside of that, they are a very easy dog to groom. Special care should be given to the ears, since they can be prone to ear infections and the hair under the ears and around the feet should be trimmed on a regular basis. Baths should only be given when it is absolutely necessary and the breed can go several months between baths.
Origin: 
The Austrian Brandlbracke breed of dog was developed in Austria and can be traced back to hte 1600's. While it is unclear what breeds went into the creation of the Austrian Brandlbracke, it is believed that the Tyrolean Bracke, Keltenbracken and the Slovak Kopov were used. The breed was used as a versatile hunting dog and were commonly used to hunt both deer and fox. The breed is quite popular in Austria, however, it is a rare breed throughout the rest of the world.
