Breed Description: 

The Australian Stumpy Tail Cattle Dog breed of dog is a medium sized breed of dog that should be well-muscled and athletic in appearance without appearing too large or coarse. They should square in build with their length and height being equal, however, their overall appearance is very leggy. The top line should be level and the overall look should be of a strong and rugged dog. The head of the Australian Stumpy Tail Cattle Dog should be broad between the ears and should taper slightly to the muzzle, which is medium in length and strong. The small ears should be triangular in shape and they should be held erect high on the head. The tail of the Australian Stumpy Tail Cattle Dog should be set high and should be no longer than 4 inches in length.

The coat of the Australian Stumpy Tail Cattle Dog should consist of two layers. The undercoat should be short and have a soft texture to it. It should cover the dog completely and be dense. The topcoat should also be short, although slightly longer than the undercoat, and should have a slightly rough texture to it. It should be dense as well adn the coat should be straight without any wave or curl to it. The Australian Stumpy Tail Cattle Dog can be found in two colors. These are red, which is a red mottled or red speckled and blue, which can be blue mottled or blue speckled. It is important to note that solid color can be found on the head, however, the red should never have shades of blue and the blue should never have shades of red in its coat.

Temperament: 
The Australian Stumpy Tail Cattle Dog breed of dog is an intelligent and hard working breed that is known for being loyal and watchful. This is a breed that is devoted to their family, however, they are not a "velcro" breed and will work independently, which can make training a bit difficult if you are unfamiliar with independent breeds. If you are, there is no limit to the abilities of the Australian Stumpy Tail Cattle Dog and they thrive when they have something to do, whether it is herding or dog obedience. The breed is usually very alert and this makes them an excellent watch dog. The Australian Stumpy Tail Cattle Dog does well with other dogs and animals and they can do very well with children, however, this is a dog that will herd other members of the family if they aren't stimulated enough.
Height: 
The average height for an Australian Stumpy Tail Cattle Dog is between 17 to 19 inches for females and 18 to 20 inches for males.
Weight: 
There is no set weight for an Australian Stumpy Tail Cattle Dog, however, the weight should be in proportion to the height. However, many range from between 35 to 50 pounds.
Health Problems: 
The Australian Stumpy Tail Cattle Dog breed of dog is considered to be a healthy breed, however, some health problems have been seen in the breed including cleft palate, hip dysplasia, progressive retinal atrophy, and deafness.
Living Conditions: 
The Australian Stumpy Tail Cattle Dog breed of dog is not recommended for apartments. This is an active dog and they are happiest when they have an area to exercise in. A home with a large fenced yard is best for the breed.
Exercise: 
The Australian Stumpy Tail Cattle Dog breed of dog is an active dog and should recieve about 45 to 60 minutes of exercise each day. As with many working breeds, the Australian Stumpy Tail Cattle Dog does need mental stimulation as well as physical and this is a dog that excels at many areas of training and can be a wonderful agility or working dog.

Grooming: 
The Australian Stumpy Tail Cattle Dog breed of dog is a very easy breed to groom and they require little to no maintenance to keep their coats healthy. On average, you should expect to brush your dog on a weekly basis to remove dead hairs and dirt. A wipe down with a damp cloth will keep them clean and they should only be bathed when it is absolutely necessary. Ears should be cleaned on a regular basis and nails should be clipped once or twice a month.
Origin: 
The Australian Stumpy Tail Cattle Dog breed of dog was developed in Australia and was primarily used as a working breed. While it is often confused with the Australian Cattle Dog, the breed was actually developed by crossing the dingo with a breed known as the Smithfield Cattle Dogs. The Australian Stumpy Tail Cattle Dog was developed by a man named Timmins and the breed was originally known as the Timmins Biters. Although the breed is well known in Australia, it is still a fairly unknown breed throughout the world, however, their hard work and intelligence has earned them many fanciers. The Australian Stumpy Tail Cattle Dog is not accepted by the AKC, however, they have been accepted by many other registries including the FCI and the Australian National Kennel Control.
