Auction Houses

Auction Houses are a great source for finding paintings, photographs, prints, etchings and sculpture of animal art that makes its’ way back into the market via recognized and established auction houses gives the art credibility through the acceptance of the auction house to sell it and authenticate it. There is a pecking order to particular auctions, and this is known by the PR done for that auction and its’ contents. The auction houses we will mention here often hold sales, although not many per year directly about animals, as material is sometimes scarce and with older art, certainly limited in what might be available. The animal art auctions, usually are accompanied by a catalogue in which the auction house defines if appropriate, the period of the works being shown are from, their genre, date of execution when known, etc. With each piece listed in a sale, often, when firmly known, some history about the piece ,( for example previous owners), the period in which it was created, the artist, and condition of the work are written. If the work of art has special value this is often mentioned. Therefore, the auction houses are a good source to search for animal art. It is also a lot of fun to see so many wonderful things that may have been lost to public view for long periods of time come back out to allow you to see them, learn a great deal while you are looking, and if you are able, bid and take home, that which you find that you may want.
