Breed Description: 

The AraAppaloosa breed of horse combines the refinement and athletic ability of the Arabian with the color, stamina, toughness and work ethic of the Appaloosa.  They are known for their colorful coats and display all of the typical Appaloosa colors patterns including leopard, snowflake, blanket and roan coats.

Also known as the Araloosa, Arappaloosa and the Ara-Appaloosa, the AraAppaloosa is well known for endurance and intelligence, enabling it to excel at endurance and trail riding as well as variety of horse show disciplines including dressage and eventing.

The AraAppaloosa can be identified by its coat which will be one of the basic coloration patterns found within the Appaloosa breed.  An AraAppaloosa will be more refined than your typical Appaloosa which will usually be more like a Quarter Horse in build and stature.  The AraAppaloosa will have the general conformation of the Arabian and will also exhibit some of the refinement, higher tail carriage and smaller head exhibited in the Arabian breed.    

Temperament: 
The AraAppaloosa breed of horse is known for its stamina, good temperament and intelligence. They can have fiery and spirited temperaments and are great as endurance horses.
Height: 
The AraAppaloosa breed of horse usually stands between 14 and 15 hands in height.
Weight: 
The AraAppaloosa breed of horse usually weighs between 800 and 1100 lbs.
Health Problems: 
The AraAppaloosa breed of horse is a healthy and hearty breed that is not known to be prone to any genetic or other abnormal health conditions.
Living Conditions: 
The AraAppaloosa breed of horse can thrive in many environments as long as the basic needs of shelter, food and water are met.
Exercise: 
The AraAppaloosa breed of horse thrives with regular exercise. Because of their energy levels and stamina, they need a regular exercise program to keep them happy. This is a breed well suited for endurance racing and multi-day trail riding in addition to the usual sporthorse pursuits like eventing and dressage.
Life Expectancy: 
The AraAppaloosa breed of horse has an average life span for a horse. Depending on management and environment, these horses can live to 25 or 30 years of age.
Grooming: 
The AraAppaloosa breed of horse requires regular grooming to maintain coat health. They should be groomed well and have their feet cleaned daily, especially before and after exercise.
Origin: 
The AraAppaloosa breed of horse is considered to be a preservation of the original Appaloosa that was produced in the 1800s by Native Americans in the Pacific Northwest. The main Appaloosa registry was established to develop the Appaloosa breed and because of similar ancient origins, the registry allowed the Appaloosa to be crossed with pureblooded Arabians, resulting in the AraAppaloosa of today and establishing a separate registry for the AraAppaloosa as a breed.
