Horse
The Anglo-Norman breed of horse, now extinct, is the primary foundation horse for the Selle Francais breed of horse (see Selle Francais); before 1965, the Sell-Francais was called the "Anglo-Norman". The Anglo-Norman was a large cob-type working horse that was also suitable for riding. It was created in the early 19th century by crossing the Norman horse with the English Thoroughbred and the Norfolk Trotter and it was primarily used in the military and as a coach horse.
The Norman horse was one of the heavy war-horses used by the French and English in the Middle Ages. Over the centuries it became lighter and became more suitable as a saddle horse.
