Dog
The American Rat Pinscher breed of dog is a "designer" or mixed breed that was created by crossing the Rat Terrier with the Miniature Pinscher. Because of this, a breed type has not been established and the looks and temperament of the dog can greatly change from one puppy to the next. Generally, the American Rat Pinscher will have qualities of both parents. They should be a toy sized to small breed of dog with delicate features and a large round head. The ears should be large, set fairly high on the head and should be slightly rounded at the tip. The breed should look sturdy but should still have the delicate body expected in toy breeds. The tail is usually long and tapered.
The coat of the American Rat Pinscher should be short and smooth and should have a slightly hard texture to it. The coat can be found in a variety of colors but the most common is the black and tan that is commonly seen in the Miniature Pinscher parent.
