Breed Description:

The American Bandogge Mastiff breed of dog should have a short, hard textured coat and a long tapered tail.  They should be massive in size and should have a boxy head with a strong jaw.  The coat is generally brindle or black in coloring but they have also been found in blue, tan, tawny and red. Ears are usually large and usually hang down the side of the head, although some owners opt to crop the ears.   This is a powerful looking dog, however, they should maintain a well-balanced proportion and should never look overweight.

Temperament:
The American Bandogge Mastiff breed of dog is known for being very gentle and affectionate and can make an excellent family dog that is patient and loyal. They thrive when they are with their owners and have been described as being sensitive dogs. The breed is usually very calm but they can be protective and will often protect their owners from any threat, whether it is real or imagined.
Height:
The average height of an American Bandogge Mastiff is between 25 to 29 inches.
Weight:
The average weight of an American Bandogge Mastiff is between 100 to 140 pounds.
Health Problems:
The American Bandogge Mastiff breed of dog has no known health problems, however, is important to research both the Neapolitan Mastiff and the American Pitbull Terrier to be aware of any potential health problems your dog could be at risk for.
Living Conditions:
The American Bandogge Mastiff breed of dog can do very well in apartments if they are exercised properly, however, the ideal living condition is a home with a large fenced yard. In addition, while they do enjoy being outside, they should not be an outdoor dog; this is a breed that loves being with their owners.
Exercise:
The American Bandogge Mastiff breed of dog is a giant sized breed of dog and can be quite lazy, depending on which parent it takes after. That being said, they do need about 45 minutes of exercise each day to keep them healthy and happy.
Life Expectancy:
8 to 10 years
Grooming:
The American Bandogge Mastiff breed of dog is a very easy breed to groom and they require little to no maintenance to keep their coats healthy. On average, you should expect to brush your dog on a weekly basis to remove dead hairs and dirt. A wipe down with a damp cloth will keep them clean and they should only be bathed when it is absolutely necessary. Ears should be cleaned on a regular basis and nails should be clipped once or twice a month.
Origin:
The American Bandogge Mastiff breed of dog is a `hybrid` breed, however, it was designed by a veternarian, by the name of Swinford, in the 1960's to create a better, and possibly the greatest, protection and guard dog. Swinford crossed the Neapolitan Mastiff with the American Pitbull Terrier and the result was the American Bandogge Mastiff. It is interesting to note that there are several breeding programs that use different dogs to produce a Bandogge, however, the Neapolitan Mastiff and American Pitbull Terrier are the breeds used to make the American Bandogge Mastiff.
