Breed Description: 

The Alaskan Klee Kai is a small to toy sized breed of dog that should be compact and well-proportioned.  The head should be wedge shaped with the a definite stop between the muzzle and the skull. The body should be strong and robust with an athletic build, giving the appearance of a well-balanced dog. The ears should be triangular and they should be held erect on the top of the head.  The tail should be long, carried low and should have a slight curve at the end. 

The coat of the Alaskan Klee Kai is medium to long in length and should consist of two coats, the soft, dense undercoat and the longer top coat.  The top coat should have a harsh texture to it and it should be slightly thicker around the neck and shoulders and on the tail. They can be found in three coat colors; red and white, gray and white and solid white.

Temperament: 
The Alaskan Klee Kai breed of dog is an affectionate and devoted dog that is known for being an excellent companion for someone that is active. This breed has a fair amount of energy and while they love being with their family, they do need to get their exercise. If they don't, they can become very high strung and difficult to handle. The Alaskan Klee Kai does well with children but they do need to have ample socialization. In addition, this breed needs a firm owner that can set consistent rules. If they have all of those things, there is no limit to how wonderful and affectionate the Alaskan Klee Kai can be.

The Alaskan Klee Kai breed of dog comes in three sizes. The average height for a Alaskan Klee Kai are between 15 to 17 inches for a Standard, 13 to 15 inches for a Miniature and 11 to 13 inches for a Toy.

The Alaskan Klee Kai breed of dog comes in three sizes. The average weight for a Alaskan Klee Kai are 23 pounds for a Standard, 15 pounds for a Miniature and 8 to 10 pounds for a Toy.
Health Problems: 
The Alaskan Klee Kai breed of dog is not a purebred breed of dog and is considered to be a mixed breed. For this reason, they do not have any known health problems. However, it is believed that the Alaskan Malamute, Siberian Husky and American Eskimo Dog went into creating this breed so it is important to read up on all three breeds to determine the health risks your dog may have.
Living Conditions: 
The Alaskan Klee Kai breed of dog does very well in apartments. The ideal is a home with a yard to exercise in. While they enjoy getting outside, they can stay in a relatively small home without any problems. They should not be an outdoor dog.
Exercise: 
The Alaskan Klee Kai breed of dog has a surprising amount of energy for its size and you should expect to give them about 30 to 45 minutes of exercise each day. They should be kept on leash when they are not in a secure area since they may run off on their own.

12 to 14 years
Grooming: 
The Alaskan Klee Kai breed of dog needs to have their coat brushed two or three times a week to keep their coat in top condition. They are considered to be average shedders and they will need to be brushed daily when they are shedding. The breed should be bathed on a monthly basis to keep their coat healthy. In addition, ears should be cleaned regularly and the nails should be clipped once or twice a month.
Origin: 
The Alaskan Klee Kai breed of dog was developed in the 1970's in Alaska, United States. It was originally developed by Linda S. Spurlin who tried to develop a smaller husky after purchasing her own small sized Siberian Husky. It is believed that the breed was developed by crossing the Siberian Husky, Alaskan Malamute and the American Eskimo Dog. While the breed is considered to be a mixed breed, efforts are being made to establish a breed standard. Alaskan Klee Kai today, are being bred together to breed true to standard and there is an actual pedigree for puppies now. Because of this effort, several kennel clubs, including the UKC has recognized the breed.
