Breed Description: 

The Affen Tzu breed of dog is a small, toy sized breed of dog that was developed by crossing the Shih Tzu with the Affenpinscher. The result was a small, compact dog that should be low to the ground and slightly longer than it is tall.  The breed should be sturdy and should not look delicate in any manner.  They have a short muzzle, giving them an almost pushed in muzzle and the ears are small and hang down the side of the head. The tail is usually medium in length.

The coat of the Affen Tzu should be medium in length and hard in texture. It should be almost wiry and there should be a slight wave to it, although it should not be curled, giving it a shaggy appearance.  The undercoat should be soft, short and slightly wavy. The coat can be any color but is commonly either tan, black, red, gray, cream. They can also be parti-colored, bi-colored and tri-colored in a range of colors.

Temperament: 
The Affen Tzu breed of dog is an affectionate and happy little dog that is often described as being clown like in personality. They are generally happy to get along with everyone and while they can be wary of strangers, they often warm up to them quickly. The breed is very intelligent and will learn quickly. In addition, they are usually extremely loyal and will often take the place of protector in their family. The Affen Tzu can do well with kids but if they take after their Affenpinscher parent, they may not be suitable for older children.

The average height of an Affen Tzu is between 7 and 16 pounds.
Weight: 
The average weight of an Affen Tzu is between 10 to 15 inches.
Health Problems: 
The Affen Tzu breed of dog breed of dog has no known health problems, however, is important to research both the Affenpinscher and the Shih Tzu to be aware of any potential health problems your dog could be at risk for.
Living Conditions: 
The Affen Tzu is a versatile dog that can live just about anywhere. They are excellent in apartments but they can do well in a large house as well. They should have a fenced yard if they have access to one just to keep them safe since the Affen Tzu may not back down from other animals.
Exercise: 
The Affen Tzu breed of dog tends to range when it comes to exercise needs. They do have a fair amount of energy but many times, the Affen Tzu will change its exercise needs to fit their owner's lifestyle. The more active their owner is, the more active the dog will be. That being said, you should take your Affen Tzu out for one or two walks each day to keep them healthy.

Grooming: 
The Affen Tzu breed of dog can be a difficult breed to groom. You should expect to brush them two or three times per week and the coat may need to be stripped to prevent matting. Ears should be cleaned on a weekly basis since the long drop ears can be prone to ear infections. Nails should be trimmed and the hair under the ears and around the feet should be as well. Some owners opt to clip the coat but be aware that clipping the coat could damage the wiry texture of it.
Origin: 
The Affen Tzu breed of dog is a designer `hybrid` breed that has become popular over the last decade or so. There is no actual origin for the breed and if you are interested in learning more about the Affen Tzu, it is important to read up on both the Affenpinscher and the Shih Tzu.
